Monday 17th March, I had the chance to shadow a Ward Goodman audit, which allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the daily tasks they handle and the processes they follow. I assisted with asset verification, creating bank leads, and purchase transaction testing.
I worked on asset verification alongside Callan, our Audit Apprentice. We were provided with the client’s fixed asset register and selected a sample to review. We then visited the facilities to locate the assets on the list. Callan explained that this step is crucial for preventing fraud and ensuring regulatory compliance, as we need to confirm the accuracy of the asset register and verify that the assets are properly utilised and are not impaired. The audit took place at a sports venue, making the asset verification process especially interesting. I enjoyed exploring various areas like the tennis courts and gym studios while learning about how assets are tracked and stored.
Next, I assisted Adin, our other Audit Apprentice, with reviewing the bank leads and testing purchase transaction. My tasks involved going through the client’s monthly invoices and matching them with the references provided. Although it was a longer process, I found it engaging and enjoyed helping Adin. As a Business Administration Apprentice, this experience was quite different from my usual tasks, and I had a great time trying new things and experiencing work on-site. It was nice to have a change in scenery and experience some variation. The team were very supportive and made sure to involve me in several different tasks to show me all the different aspects of their work.
